Natural Disasters: Fertile ground for fraudsters

Virginia has not experienced a direct hit from a major hurricane in decades. Hurricane Florence serves as a reminder that preparedness is always vital. Hurricane season 2018 began June 1 and will run through Nov. 30th. Now is the time to prepare.

A major part of your preparedness plan is anticipating the aftermath of a hurricane. Protecting yourself against disaster fraud is a part of a solid preparedness plan. Becoming a victim of a natural disaster may be impossible to avoid. You can, however, avoid being victimized by dishonest individuals.
